Are you interested in joining us in one of the most beautiful regions in France, at an Outdoor Activity Adventure Camp as part of the team that works to expand students’ horizons, transform self-esteem and improve life chances for all? 

We are seeking a Chef for the duration of our annual, nine- week outdoor Residential Trip to Vallon, France who will prepare an exciting, nutritious and cost effective meal each evening, ideally with a French theme, for between 40 and 50 people.


The Rodillian Multi Academy Trust (RMAT) are operating an Outdoors Activity Education Adventure Camp in the Ardeche region in the South of France. This is an opportunity for the students across the Multi Academy Trust to develop their teamwork and communication skills and experience the outdoors. We have eight different groups each spending one week camping at the campsite in Vallon. On the site there is a variety of leisure facilities such as a swimming pool, table tennis, football/rugby, basketball, volleyball and a games arcade. The attendees will travel to and participate in a range of activities including; kayaking, mountain biking, high ropes, and a visit to a water park.  

Purpose of the job:   

Under the direction of the Trip leaders to be responsible for preparing a nutritious evening meal with a French theme where possible each night for between 40 and 50 people, in-line with the school food standards guidance and the Academy’s budget.  

Breakfast and lunch are quick and basic, so your input would be minimal as directed by the Trip Leaders.      

Further details 

For the duration of the nine-week post, camping accommodation (individual tents and air beds) three meals per day and transport to and from the site will be provided at no additional cost. You will be required to take your own sleeping bag and a pillow. When you are not cooking or preparing food, you will have periods of free time to relax in your own private space and take part in activities if desired where appropriate.

Duties and Responsibilities:  

Postholders will be required to: 

  • adhere to the relevant Health and Safety and Safeguarding and Child Protection procedures in line with Trust policy.  
  • work with Trip Leaders to plan meals and the ingredients required. 
  • prepare a wholesome, well-balanced evening meal which will be appealing to all groups.  
  • manage the appropriate storage of food items. 
  • have a full understanding of special dietary requirements and food allergies and take necessary precautions as required when preparing and storing food. ensure the sanitation and cleanliness of the preparation areas, utensils, containers, cloths, towels, food storage areas, etc. 
  • introduce some new recipes in-keeping with France’s popular dishes. 
  • behave in a professional manner towards both students and staff during the course of their employment. 
  • act as an adult role model to the students at all times. 
  • ensure punctuality and began food preparation in a timely manner to meet meal time deadlines. 
  • not to be under the influence of alcohol or any substance.

Requirements

Special Conditions of Service:  

There is a requirement to submit to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and other statutory employment checks prior to appointment.

Essential knowledge / Experience

  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (level 2) or equivalent
  • Knowledge of special dietary requirements and food allergies and the necessary precautions required.
  • An understanding of healthy eating guidelines.
  • Experience of meal planning and preparation for large groups.
  • Experience of catering for special dietary requirements.
  • A willingness to adapt to the conditions and program of the camp setting.
  • Ability to communication effectively and appropriately with staff, adults and students.
  • Ability to relate effectively to children and young people.

Desirable Knowledge / Experience

  • Child Protection and Safeguarding training
  • First Aid qualification
