Description

Are you interested in joining us in one of the most beautiful regions in France, at an Outdoor Activity Education Adventure Camp as part of the team that works to expand students’ horizons, transform self-esteem and improve life chances for all?  

We are seeking a Minibus Driver to provide transport for the nine-week duration for our annual Outdoor Activity Education Adventure Camp in Vallon, France and would love to hear from suitable candidates.

Overview:  

The Rodillian Multi Academy Trust (RMAT) are operating an Outdoors Activity Education Adventure Camp in the Ardeche region in the South of France. This is an opportunity for the students across the MAT to enjoy a once in a life time experience. We have eight different groups each spending one week at the campsite near Vallon. On the site there is a variety of leisure facilities such as a swimming pool, table tennis, football/rugby, basketball, volleyball and a games arcade. The attendees will travel to and participate in a range of activities including; kayaking, mountain biking, high ropes, and a visit to a water park.

Purpose of the job:  

Under the direction of the Trip Leaders to be responsible for driving the Trust’s minibus as follows: 

  • Drive out from the Rodillian Academy with a Trust colleague on Thursday 16 May 2019 (tbc) and assist in setting-up the camp upon arrival. 
  • To provide driving services for staff and students whilst at the Residential site in Vallon as required. 
  • Weekly pick-up and drop-off of staff and student groups to and from the designated airport to the Residential site at Vallon. 
  • Assist with the dismantling of the camp and drive back to the Rodillian Academy with a Trust colleague on Wednesday 17 July 2019 (tbc)?.

Further details 

For the duration of the nine-week post, camping accommodation (individual tents and airbeds) and three meals per day will be provided at no additional cost. You will be required to take your own sleeping bag and a pillow. When driving services are not required, you will have periods of free time to relax in own private space and take part in activities if desired where appropriate. 

Duties and Responsibilities:  

Postholders will be required to:

  • adhere to the relevant Health and Safety and Safeguarding and Child Protection procedures in line with Trust policy.  
  • drive in a safe and professional manner at all times, in line with legal driving regulations in the UK and France during travel. 
  • ensure that the EU driving card is in place at all time when driving the mini bus. 
  • adopt high standards of personal conduct in order to maintain the confidence and respect of students and staff. 
  • behave in a professional manner towards both students and staff during the course of their employment. 
  • act as an adult role model to the students at all times. 
  • be punctual and ensure they are fit to drive the minibuses. 
  • not to be under the influence of alcohol or any substance including prescribed medication, which may affect their ability to drive safely. 

Please note; employees of the RMAT and the Trip Leader will be responsible for the supervision of the students on the trip at all times.

Requirements

Special Conditions of Service: 
The successful candidate must hold a Category D1 qualification and have passed a D1 driving test. The exemption which allows you to drive a minibus in the UK on your car licence, whether you passed your driving test before or after January 1997, does not allow you to drive a minibus in other EU countries.  You must have current D1 entitlement on your licence, gained by passing a D1 driving test.  You cannot drive a minibus abroad if you only have an ordinary ‘B’ car driving licence. 

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment.  The successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure check by the Disclosure and Barring Service. 

Essential Knowledge / Experience

  • A Full clean driving license
  • Category D1 Qualification
  • Experience of driving a 17 seater Minibus
  • Ability to communication effectively and appropriately with staff, adults and students 
  • Ability to relate effectively to children and young people

Desirable Knowledge / Experience

  • Child Protection and Safeguarding training
  • First Aid qualification
  • Experience of driving in other EU countries
